Here’s a rare photo – a shot of me actually working! I’m just about finished with the scroll backbone engraving on the custom rifle.
Hammer and Chisel: With the long swing of this barrel it was not possible to do under my microscope so I’ve used the Optivisor for magnification and hammer and chisel to make the cuts. I really enjoy this technique but it is so much slower than the GRS GraverMach. The air operated GraverMach can put out 3,300 strokes per minute while my hammer puts out about 100 strokes per minute. I must admit that I have never actually tried to count my hammer strokes so the 100 per minute is just an estimate.
Time to get to the shading and backgrounding. Another few hours and this rifle will be ready for bluing.

hello i was looking to start engraving some of my guns and for recreation. my question is that i looked at the air powered gravers and there quite exspensive so i am looking to get some form of hand engraver and hammer beginner set. but no one seems to sell a set of this nature so i was wondering if you new where i could get something like that or if you could put together a writen list of what items i would need purchase to start engraving on metal to practice and some where to purchase these items.
