Devil Doc Delica – Update

Today I laid out the design starting with Devil Doc lettering. Over that I laid on the wester scroll and finally the Devil Dog. First to cut were the letters. Then the backbone of the scroll, The engraving was flying along until I got to the scroll that intertwined with the letters. Around the letters I had to decide which scrolls to leave and which had to be eliminated so that the letters were clear to read. That created some areas where I had to completely redraw the scroll and all that slowed me down. Continue reading

Hand Engraved Ruger Vaquero ~ Update

The majority of the firearm has been cut with hammer and chisel. I use the microscope for a very detailed view while I am working. For this firearm I have used GRS C-Max gravers exclusively. A 90 degree square graver for all the mainlines and also for the shading lines. Continue reading

Custom rifle barrel engraving

Today a custom rifle builder from Cortez CO (Just west of my home) stopped by to see if I could engrave the caliber on a rifle he had just completed. The graver is held in a steel holder and struck with a light engraving hammer. Very “old School” but for a custom rifle it is very appropriate. Continue reading
